UK threesome dating for couples and singles

You've probably had the conversation more than once. Usually late, usually half-joking, and it never quite survives daylight. The awkward part was never wanting it. It's that the people you'd actually ask are your friends, and you'd still have to see them at Christmas.

Couples and singles across the UK, all here for the same reason. Close enough to actually meet.

The usual routes, and why they mostly don't work

Most UK couples try some version of these first.

Someone you know. The obvious option and the one with the longest tail. It changes a friendship whether or not it goes well, and you can't undo it by deleting an app.

A night out. Bars and clubs are the route couples keep attempting because they want it to happen naturally. The success rate is poor and the failure mode is embarrassing for everyone in the vicinity.

Mainstream apps. Workable, but you're guessing. Most people on them aren't interested, a few are and won't say so on a public profile, and you'll spend a fortnight establishing which.

Clubs and lifestyle events. These genuinely work and the UK has a long-established scene. They do expect you to turn up somewhere unfamiliar on the first evening, which is a lot if none of this is habit yet.

A site is the low-stakes version. You find out who's interested before anyone commits to an evening, and you can stop replying at any point without it being a scene. All five routes are compared properly elsewhere, including the ones that aren't us.

What you'll find here

Mostly couples in their late thirties and forties who have been together for years and would like to invite a woman along. Single women are far outnumbered here and their inboxes show it. Single men come off worst for replies, which is worth knowing before you join rather than after.

A good number of members mention being new to this. If that's you, it's a perfectly normal thing to put on a profile, and it tends to attract people with the patience for it.

Swinging and couples meeting couples

Not everyone here is looking for a third. Plenty of UK couples are looking for another couple, either for a night out that goes somewhere or for the full swap.

The etiquette is much the same and the pacing is different. Four people means four sets of expectations, so most couples start with a drink and no commitment beyond that. It's also worth settling the same-room or separate-room question beforehand, because working that out on the night rarely goes smoothly.

Spell it out in your profile. "Couples only" is a perfectly reasonable line to write, and it saves everyone a fortnight. Meeting another couple covers the logistics, and swinging for beginners covers the club side.

If you're the single woman here

Your inbox will be busy, which means you get to be choosy. A few things worth looking for.

Both of them have written something. A profile written entirely by him tells you whose idea this is and how the evening is likely to go.

They're specific. Couples who have talked properly about what they want say so plainly. Couples who haven't send you a checklist.

They ask what you want. You're not a missing ingredient. You're there for your own reasons, and a couple worth meeting is interested in what those are.

Set your terms before you meet, not during. Say what you're up for and what you're not. Anyone who finds that difficult has just saved you an evening. Joining as a single woman goes into how to read a couple's profile.

Where members are

The UK is well covered in the cities and thinner in smaller towns, so it's worth looking before you assume either way.

Agreeing it between the two of you

The thing most likely to go wrong isn't the third person. It's the pair of you not having said something out loud beforehand.

Nearly always it's one of these: one of you was much keener and neither admitted it; one agreed in principle and wasn't fine in practice; or nothing was settled in advance, so it all got settled at speed, in the moment, by two people who weren't able to speak freely.

So have the dull conversation first. What each of you actually wants out of it. What's not happening. What either of you says to stop, and the fact that stopping needs no justification afterwards. Rules, boundaries and jealousy sets out what to agree, and asking your partner covers getting there in the first place.

Then hold the third to the same standard, and offer it back. She can end the evening at any point without explaining herself. If that feels like it would spoil things, it's worth waiting until it doesn't.

What free gets you

Joining costs nothing. Neither does building a profile, browsing, searching or matching within a daily limit.

Messaging is the part that does. Start a conversation and you'll need VIP; a free Classic account only lets you read what VIP members have already sent. Going VIP also adds the Verified filter, so you can limit a search to people whose photo has been checked by a moderator against their ID.

Better to know that now than after someone gets in touch. Join, look around properly, and upgrade only if there are people near enough to bother with. Canceling is done through support whenever you want, and what free covers has the full breakdown.

Features and membership options can change as the site develops. Check what's included on the membership page in your account before you upgrade.

Questions UK members ask

We're a UK couple. Where do we start?

Register as a couple rather than as one person, write the profile between you, then filter your search to whoever you'd like to meet: a woman, a man, or another couple. Put that on the profile too, so nobody has to ask. Writing a couple's profile has a worked example.

How do we find a third near us?

Search your area and read the profiles properly. In cities you'll have a reasonable choice; in smaller towns expect a wider radius and a slower start. That's true of every niche site, whatever they claim.

Is it free to join?

Setting up and looking around costs nothing. Writing to people is the paid part, though anything a VIP member sends you lands in your inbox either way.

How common is swinging in the UK?

Common enough to support a long-running club scene in most large cities, and quiet enough that most people who do it don't discuss it. Both things are true at once.

Are the profiles genuine?

Many are, some aren't, as anywhere. Nothing appears until a moderator has looked at it, VIP members can filter down to Verified profiles, and reports stay anonymous. Treat a quick push to WhatsApp, or any mention of money, as your cue to stop, and read what the fakes look like before you start.

Can we stay private?

Use a screen name rather than your own. Keep photos private and share them one-to-one when you choose. Contact details can only be swapped in private messages, never posted publicly, and blocking someone is invisible to them.
